What’s Markup?

Markup is information in a text or WP file that indicates how the document should look when it's printed or displayed, or that describes database or document structure. Often referred to as "tagging", markup helps make information consistent, so it can be automatically processed. This helps to speed up information delivery and processing, thus reducing costs.

Some of the most widespread markup languages in use are the open standards HTML, SGML and XML - but markup can also be proprietary to a single application or organization. Exegenix can convert to any markup variant; XML is the one we get asked for most often.
